Below are names of all the women elected or appointed as city council members, mayors, county supervisors, members of the state Legislature and members of Congress representing the people of the San Diego region by the year they first took office. The list does not include numerous other women elected to other important public positions, such as school boards, planning commissions and city clerks.

(Women ran for elective office in San Diego well before the passage of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution in August 1920. In 1889, Flora Kimball, an educator and advocate of equal suffrage, made history when she was elected to the National City School Board. On Oct. 10, 1911, voters passed an amendment to the California Constitution that granted women the right to vote in the state for the first time.)
