Action Alert | Visibility for Women in Tech
Happy New Year! We are starting this year’s alert focused on visibility of women in tech, conscious choices, and how collectively we can bring awareness to create change.
CES, the most influential tech event, is currently in progress. We are happy to report that we have tracked gender parity three years in a row. We are optimistic that in future years we will continue to see gender parity on the main stage, and we hope we will also see a rise in women of color.
There are many conferences in tech, artificial intelligence, telehealth, and robotics happening this year. We encourage greater representation of women speakers at these conferences.
Women are leading tech innovation supporting the design of products for women and marginalized groups while also helping to change the equation of women in key industries. This week we ask you to share women innovators so together we can promote their work, their voice and their ideas.
Join us in celebrating the following innovative women in tech to help elevate their voices in this space! This week we want you to find women innovators in the tech industry and follow them to amplify their work.
Black cyber feminist Dr. Kishonna Gray, coined the term intersectional tech which developed from her research on how Black women and femmes experience social media and gaming. Her research forces us to think more critically about online harassment through the lens of race and gender and how we build inclusive digital gathering spaces. Follow her work here.
Jordan Reeves, co-founder of Design With Us, provides design skills and professional development to young people with disabilities. Jordan’s design consultancy of 13-20 year olds works with companies to provide more inclusive products and services. Follow her work here.
Sofia Elizondo is changing the way we address chronic conditions as the Co-Founder of Brightseed, a bioscience startup with the world's largest digital platform that illuminates the interaction between plant bioactive and human biology. Follow her work here.
The Poet of Code, otherwise known as Joy Buolamwini, is revolutionizing the AI space with her organization the Algorithmic Justice League by using art and research to illuminate the social implications of artificial intelligence. Follow her work here.
When we ask, “Where are the women?”. We are asking event organizers and attendees to get more creative about whose innovative ideas we value. We are asking all of us to think bigger.
Here are 5 annual tech conferences we want you to keep an eye on this year. Help us tally their progress to encourage representation.
