These statistics are startling because women comprise 51 percent of the population and 52 percent of moviegoers, according to a 2012 study by the Motion Picture Association of America, Inc. These figures have also not changed significantly in decades, illuminating how the Hollywood status quo continues to be a predominantly male silver screen.
