📣🚨 Show Up for Black Women: 3 Important Resources

For this week’s Action Alert, GenderAvenger asks you to spend some time with these three important resources to help us all support Black women in business and politics:

After the election, I saw many women vowing to use their influence and privilege to advance the rights of the folks who were reeling at the reality that an uninformed racist would be in charge of the country.

Thank God, because we need people who are interested in advancing and supporting folks other than themselves. Marginalized groups need allies, and people with power who open doors or pull chairs out at the table.

The desire to support others is noble, indeed. I appreciate the sentiment.

I do, however, have a few requests, particularly if you’re proclaiming to be an ally to black women.

Black Women Are Leading the Fight for Justice, Global Justice Center

The Global Justice Center condemns the brutal extrajudicial killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and so many others. We stand in solidarity with our allies and partners working to dismantle structural inequity and demand justice. We unequivocally denounce racism, white supremacy, police brutality, and violence against Black communities. 

Black women have long led and continue to lead the fight for racial justice, which is why we are highlighting organizations founded and led by black women that center the experiences and voices of black women and girls in their work to advance justice, health, and rights.

Higher Heights for America

Higher Heights is the only national organization providing Black women with a political home exclusively dedicated to harnessing their power to expand Black women’s elected representation and voting participation, and advance progressive policies.

Higher Heights for America, a 501(c)(4), and its sister organization Higher Heights Leadership Fund, a national 501(c)(3) organization are building the political power and leadership of Black women from the voting booth to elected office and creating the environment for Black women to run, win and lead.

Higher Heights was founded by Black women for Black women’s political growth and equity, and we have a winning plan for building collective political power and expanding Black women elected leadership in 2020 and beyond.
