#HallofShame | Leadership for the Americas Awards Gala [UPDATE]

UPDATE: The Leadership for the Americas Awards Gala is now honoring three men and one woman, and will have one woman presenter and four male presenters. It's an improvement, but still a Hall of Shame gender ratio for presenters and honorees. 

On November 17, 2015, the Inter-American Dialogue will celebrate the "tireless, steadfast, effective and ongoing service of the hemisphere's most influential leaders at the Leadership for the Americas Awards Gala."

Their annual gala will feature dinner, cocktails, and "over 500 distinguished citizens from the around the world." But it won't feature any women honorees. And who will hand out the awards to this all-male lineup of influential leaders? An all-male lineup of award presenters.  

There will be one woman onstage hosting the event. This is a variation on one of our top 10 classic excuses. Instead of "Look how many of our moderators are women!" this gala offers a twist with "Look, we have a woman hosting this all male event!" Having a woman host is great, but it's not a substitute for honoring influential leaders who are women.  

This isn't the first time that the Inter-American Dialogue has landed in the GA Hall of Shame. Earlier this summer, they put out a newsletter where nearly all of the content they highlighted was written by men, and almost all of the experts and members that they featured were men.
