#GoodReads Roundup: Trailblazers, Sharks, and Unhailed Heroes

Happy Women’s History Month! We’re kicking it off with a deep dive into some awesome women’s history-themed books and blogs and a look at some of the unhailed GenderAvengers who changed the world but didn’t make it into our history books.

Rad American Women A-Z, published by City Lights Books/Sister Spit

This month, City Lights Press is publishing its first kids book, Rad American Women A-Z, that celebrates 26 women "rebels, trailblazers, and visionaries who shaped our history." We love the message and the incredible artwork.

An old one, but in case you missed it — a few years ago Maria Popova and Lisa Congdon put together The Reconstructionists, a year long illustrated look at who changed how we see the world.

Female Artists of Art History: Art history, served up with a feminist twist. Feeling inspired? Check out the newest addition to the GenderAvenger Hall of Fame: Art+Feminism Wikipedia Edit-a-Thon.

Here are just a few of the unhailed GenderAvengers who battled sexism while changing the world:

• Eugenie Clark: A pioneer in marine conservation nicknamed “The Shark Lady,” Clark was barred entry from Columbia University for post doctoral studies and told "If you do finish, you will probably get married, have a bunch of kids, and never do anything in science after we have invested our time and money in you."
