📣🚨 ACT NOW | Ellen K. Pao Inspired GenderAvenger to Track the Sunday Front Page of the New York Times

Three tweets about the New York Times by Project Include founder Ellen K. Pao really caught our attention:

We told Ellen we would join in her efforts, so starting this week, watch for the #NYTSunday/#GenderAvenger hashtags to find out the gender breakdown of bylines for Sunday’s most important stories (according to the Times, that is). We’re going to tally the gender breakdown of writers featured on the front page of the Sunday edition, and we’ll share our findings over social media using the hashtags #NYTSunday and #GenderAvenger.

Guess what we’ve already found? Far too many articles written by men. In the month of October, 80% of all articles on the Sunday front page were written by men, while only 20% were written by women, 25% of whom are women of color.

We are not going to let the Times off the hook for this. Join us every Monday and let the New York Times know that it is time to change its ways and feature more articles written by women.
