Avenger of the Week | Lifting As We Climb
We are constantly inspired by and take time to applaud women and allies who use their platform to address gender inequality and channel it into action.
We honor Spanish Economy Minister Nadia Calvino this week, who basically said enough is enough! Someone’s gotta say it. In her address this week at Spain in the 21st Century: Economy and Geopolitics, Minister Calvino stated:
“I will never again be in a photo in which I am the only woman; I will not do it… I will not take part again in a debate in which I am the only woman.”
Minister Calvino, we can’t wait to see powerful women standing alongside you in future photos.
We’re also celebrating Ally Orr, a senior college student studying Marketing at Boise State. Ally raised over $140,000 in scholarships for women in response to a sexist, problematic comment made by a professor at Boise State. She took to TikTok and Instagram to share her thoughts:
“As a female student at Boise State University, I was deeply disheartened to learn that a professor would discourage women from enrolling in higher education… As a result, I have created a GoFundMe to fund a scholarship for women pursuing STEM, medicine, and law studies.”
Ally, you’re an inspiration for women in higher education everywhere; thank you for continuing to push towards gender equality!
