Avenger of the Week | Mary Shelley, Author
Mary Shelley wrote Frankenstein at the age of 18, which became both the first science fiction and gothic horror novel. One rainy day while hanging out with a group of friends, they decided to try writing their own horror stories at the suggestion of Lord Byron, and Shelley’s Frankenstein (also known as The Modern Prometheus) was born. When it was first published in 1818, the author was listed as anonymous and, of course, everyone assumed it was written by her husband, Percy Bysshe Shelley, until her name appeared on the second edition five years later after Percy’s death.
When Mary Shelley’s horror, Frankenstein, was published anonymously, people assumed her husband wrote it. It took 5 years before her name appeared on the 2nd edition and 200 years of skepticism, but her success reigns on. #AvengerOfTheWeek #GenderAvenger https://www.genderavenger.com/blog/avenger-of-the-week-mary-shelley
