Model Halima Aden may not have seen women in magazines who looked like her, but she’s doing her best to change that for young hijab-wearing women and girls all over the world. Just look at her list of firsts:

  • first contestant in the Miss Minnesota USA pageant to wear a burkini and a hijab

  • first hijabi model to sign with international model management firm IMG

  • first hijabi model to walk international runways

  • first hijabi model on the cover of Vogue Arabia

  • first hijabi model on the cover of Allure

  • first hijabi model on the cover of British Vogue

  • first hijabi model to appear in Sports Illustrated’s Swimsuit Issue

We applaud Halima for her continued push to challenge the current commercial standard of beauty, and we applaud all the publications who have chosen to show women of all colors that they are beautiful.
