📣🚨 Action Alert | A GA Stamp of Approval, a Missed Opportunity, and a Major Fail
The Major Fail: Book Authority
It’s a mixed bag this week, ranging from atrocious representation of women experts to a GA Stamp of Approval for inclusive programming.
First up is Book Authority, which “helps you find the most recommended books to develop your skills” and provides recommendations from “leaders and experts.” This list of experts is a major fail. Only 21% are women, and of those women only 18% are women of color. We know for a fact that women experts read (and write!) books. It’s time for Book Authority to ask more of themselves when it comes to choosing their leaders and experts.
The Missed Opportunity: MozCon
Next up is MozCon (July 14-15, 2020), an SEO conference with “action packaged insights and content from some of the best and brightest in the industry.”
While MozCon’s best and brightest includes a strong representation of women, just 20% of the women are women of color, and that is not enough.
The Silver GA Stamp of Approval: VB Transform 2020!
And finally, the good news! VB Transform 2020 (July 14-17, 2020), touted as “the only virtual AI event of the year for enterprise executives”, wins a Silver GA Stamp of Approval. With 30 women, including 13 women of color, out of 66 speakers, VB Transform is presenting diverse perspectives. Women of color’s voices should be included everywhere, and especially on the topic of artificial intelligence, which is known to have a bias problem when it comes to race and gender. Kudos to VB Transform!
