Action Alert | The Good, the Bad, and the Almost: Rail~Volution, NESSIS, and AWNewYork
The Good:
Rail~Volution 2021 Virtual Conference
It’s time to celebrate the annual Rail~Volution 2021 Virtual Conference for winning a Gold GA Stamp of Approval! Starting today, this event brings together “practitioners, leaders and advocates from transportation, land use and development” and emphasizes an equitable, community-centered approach to investment in transit.
In their application for a Stamp of Approval, the organizers mentioned that they were “so hoping to bring home the Gold” after receiving a Silver Stamp in 2019, and bring it they did! The program will feature 9 women speakers out of 18, of which 5 are women of color.
📣🚨 Congratulations to the @RailVolution 2021 Virtual Conference for bringing home a GOLD @GenderAvenger Stamp of Approval for a stellar speaker lineup! This is what curating with intention looks like. #GenderAvenger https://www.genderavenger.com/blog/action-alert-railvolution-nessis-and-awnewyork
The Bad:
NESSIS
Next up, the virtual 2021 New England Symposium on Statistics in Sports is wrapping up this week and has left us quite unimpressed. Out of 25 speakers across a month of programming, just 2 are women, and one of them will appear on the only panel in the program.
📣🚨 With 23 men and just 2 women speakers at their October 2021 conference, the New England Symposium on Statistics in Sports has a ways to go in achieving an equitable lineup. You can bet we’ll be watching for future events. #NESSIS #GenderAvenger https://www.genderavenger.com/blog/action-alert-railvolution-nessis-and-awnewyork
And The Almost:
Advertising Week 2021, AWNewYork
Finally, we have Advertising Week 2021, AWNewYork, which runs October 18th through the 21st and promises that attendees will “gather in New York and digitally around the globe for four days of insight, inspiration, and rejuvenation.” With 43 men and 41 women, of whom 14 are women of color, the featured speaker lineup came incredibly close to a Bronze GA Stamp of Approval. While this year fell a bit short of a GA Stamp, the program is worthy of a nod.
📣🚨 Shout out to @advertisingweek for a fairly well-balanced featured speaker lineup at #AWNewYork, which came incredibly close to winning a @GenderAvenger Stamp of Approval. Make it happen in 2022! #GenderAvenger https://www.genderavenger.com/blog/action-alert-railvolution-nessis-and-awnewyork
