Action Alert | Two Policy Journals, Two Major Inclusion Fails
When GenderAvenger Angela Blanchard tagged us in this tweet, our heads almost exploded.
Yes, we do notice something, Angela. We notice that National Affairs, a domestic policy journal from the American Enterprise Institute which purports to draw “upon a broad, diverse array of authors from a range of backgrounds and points of view”, is featuring the masthead equivalent of a manel for its summer edition.
Moving on, we also notice that the American Affairs Journal has featured only male authors, save for one who uses a pseudonym. According to its mission statement, American Affairs seeks “to provide a forum for the discussion of new policies that are outside of the conventional dogmas, and a platform for new voices distinguished by originality, experience, and achievement rather than the compromised credentials of careerist institutions.” And yet the authors are ALL men. How much more conventional can you get?
Where are the women, National Affairs and American Affairs?
📣🚨 Massive disappointment in the utterly atrocious gender balance on display in the summer editions of both @AmericanAffrs and @NationalAffairs. Where are the women authors? Seriously.
