Action Alert | GenderAvenger Calls for No Manels at the 2019 BIO International Convention

Earlier this month, MassBio released this statement announcing its new policy to prohibit “all-male panels at MassBio programs, forums, and conferences, along with those events MassBio representatives participate in”. In light of this, we knew we had to start counting when we saw that MassBio’s President and CEO, Bob Coughlin, is on the steering committee for the 2018 BIO International Convention being held in Boston, MA.

It turns out that there are 25 manels taking place during BIO International. Uh oh.

GenderAvenger is putting out a call for the organizers of the 2019 BIO International Convention to follow MassBio’s lead and meet their standards for women's inclusion. We are asking the BIO International Convention to make a firm commitment to eliminate manels at their 2019 conference. Let's see if they rise to the occasion.
