Good Reads | Female Movie Directors Are In the News
Two very different stories about movies popped into the GenderAvenger inbox recently.
Avenger Ellen Kurz forwarded this Washington Post story — "There are 39 major studio releases coming this summer. Only one is directed by a woman." — about the dearth of female directors among this summer film releases and the overall lack of support for women directors.
Then, Avenger Yonatan Kogan told us about the San Francisco Green Film Festival where over half the featured movie directors are women: "Female directors rule at SFGFF 2014". These are definitely Hall of Fame numbers, and we've welcomed them into the fold. Be sure to share this good news!
Please tell us about Hall of Fame (or Shame) candidates from your local area. GenderAvenger wants to be sure to recognize what is happening in towns and cities around the country, which is often a lot better than what is happening nationally!
